Hawes got the ears of Bobby Martin and Thom Bell an audition followed, and soon the group signed with Today Records as Odds & Ends. Robert Hawes assumed the managerial duties after observing them perform at family gigs, such as cookouts and weddings. These musicians were history, however, when the trio started recording.

They rehearsed diligently and were accompanied in Mom's basement by Kenneth Jackson (guitar), Tyrone Braxton (piano), Kenny Stone (xylophone), and a drummer. Grant encouraged them to sing together because she sang gospel with her siblings and cousins in Georgia but never got anywhere. Jim's only solos through Odds & Ends' existence were Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" and Edwin Starr's "Twenty Five Miles." Mom's ( Regina Grant) basement doubled as a rehearsal room for her kids. Naturally talented, they formed Doll and the Odds & Ends and worked up some secular songs. Philly's fast-talking disc jockeys Sonny "the Mighty Burner" Hobson and Jerry "the Geater with the Heater" Blavatt fascinated the Southern teens. Originally from Dorchester, GA, the youngsters sang in school and church before moving to Philadelphia when Wanda, aka Doll, was 13. 'Take My Hand' was included on the album itself, and 'Sweet Eyed Baby' was remixed to create another album track, 'Don't Think Of Me'. The track 'Worthless' later appeared on The Highbury Fields EP, a five track sampler released to promote her debut album, No Angel. Arista Records signed Dido in the United States, eventually forming a deal with her brother Rollo Armstrong's record label, Cheeky Records, allowing her music to be released internationally. Dido was brought to the attention of Arista Records, who were impressed with her collaborations and songwriting for the UK dance group Faithless, her work with a UK dance act spearheaded by her brother, Rollo Armstrong, and more importantly, the album. All of the material was recorded between 19. The collection was put together by her management team, Nettwerk, and released promotionally in late 1995, in order to gain interest from record companies so that Dido could be signed to a major record label. Odds & Ends is a collection of unfinished tracks and demo recordings by British pop singer, Dido.
